Minister confirms East West Rail under “serious consideration”

An adjournment debate on East West Rail secured by Iain Stewart MP for Milton Keynes South took place on 15th November 2011.

A full record of the debate can be read on the Hansard section of www.parliament.uk. Direct link

The debate was extremely positive towards East West Rail with Iain Stewart MP highlighting the many positive attributes and summarising the scheme as “good for business and economic growth, good for the environment and good for the nation’s wider strategic transport aspirations”.

The Minister of State Rt Hon Theresa Villiers MP, responded on behalf of the Government with a number of very encouraging statements including:

Assurance that East West Rail stands on an equal footing with those schemes proposed by the Rail Industry in the Initial Industry Plan (IIP)
Acknowledging that the case for East West Rail has been set out with great clarity, particularly around economic growth, reducing journey times and boosting hi-tech industry
Plaudits for the Consortium’s work to date and identifying it as a good example to others in driving forward ambitious projects of this type

The adjournment debate is part of the Consortium’s wider Westminster Campaign for East West Rail and is further evidence of the positive momentum of support.
